The climate event of the year—Climate Week NYC 2025—is almost upon us. Climate leaders and advocates from all around the world are descending on New York City to participate in countless events centered on climate solutions. One solution we can guarantee will be talked about? Nuclear energy.
As you likely know if you’re a regular on this blog, nuclear provides electricity 24/7/365, rain or shine, has no carbon emissions, and is the largest provider of clean energy in the United States. This should check all the boxes for a climate-friendly energy source, but historically, nuclear hasn’t been seen that way. Thankfully, we are finally seeing that change.
Nuclear’s popularity has been surging in recent years. According to Gallup, over 61% of Americans support nuclear energy. The technology is especially popular with the younger population, for whom climate is a top issue. And as nuclear continues to get its well-deserved seat at the table when it comes to events like Climate Week, more and more people will get on board.
You may be wondering why I’m so confident that nuclear will be a big part of this year’s Climate Week. That’s because NEI will be there showing everyone how Nuclear Makes It Happen! You can find us at the Nest Climate Campus hosting a week’s worth of exciting activations, including but not limited to:
- A live mural, where you can see all the bright ideas brought to Climate Week come to life through art.
- Nuclear energy trivia, hosted by a surprise guest … I’m not giving any hints here, so you’ll just have to visit us at the Nest to find out who it is!
- A (virtual) tour of a nuclear power plant with Southern Nuclear’s VR reactor walkthrough.
- Hot or not—radioactivity edition! Learn which everyday objects are and are not radioactive (you’d be surprised!).
If you’re coming to Climate Week, come hang out with us! We’re excited to hear everyone’s ideas for our clean energy future. If you’re not coming (boooo), follow along on Instagram to see how Nuclear Makes It Happen at this year’s Climate Week.
